2D Modelling Process
2D models are mainly used on regional or semi-regional cross-sections up to hundreds of kilometers in length, but may also be used to investigate more local problems, including single structures and associated potential generative source rocks. 2D migration modelling may be carried out using sections orientated along the predominant migration direction. The expulsion of hydrocarbons and migration within, but not out of, the plane of the section are modelled and so simulated accumulations will not in general be volumetrically correct.
